My Favorite Game at Busch Stadium

On October 10, 2015, one of my dreams came true.  I finally got to see the Cubs in a play-off game in person!  As the end of the regular season approached, I was saddened when I realized the Cardinals were going to in the Central Division.  However, I also realized that if the Cubs won the Wild Card game, they would be headed to St. Louis for the NLDS.  So, I bought tickets for game 2, knowing that if the Cubs didn't make it, I could easily sell them off.  The Cubs defeated the Pirates in the Wild Card, and I rejoiced.  Playoffs, here we come!
Unfortunately, the Cubs lost the first game of the series.  My husband and I headed off the the game.  We were both excited as it was the first play-off game for either of us.  (Even though he is a Tiger fan, attending October baseball was still a treat.)  Even the bus ride to the game was electric.  Yes, it was mostly Cardinals fans, but the local Cubs fans made a good showing on the bus.
Of course, the atmosphere was even better when we got to the ballpark.  At first, the stadium was mostly Cubs fans.  (Cardinals fans show up very late to games.  The game can look empty until the second inning.  In fact, even games with high attendance numbers look empty.  Most fans don't actually watch the game, but hang out in the concourse.  I don't get it.)  By the third inning, the mix was about 2/3 Cardinals fans, 1/3 Cubs fans.  And, it was obvious that there were a lot of Cubs fans there.  Busch Stadium was loud with each Cubs run or play.  The area around me was mostly Cubs fans.
The first inning was disappointing.  After all, who wants to see the Cardinals take a lead, even if it is only by one run in the first?  The top of the second, however?  Some of the most exciting baseball I have seen live.  Five runs, including a home run by Soler?  That made me feel better and amped up the Cubs fans even more.  From then on, Busch Stadium echoed with the sound of the Cubs fans.  Yes, home runs by both Kolten Wong and Randal Grichuk in the fifth quieted us down for a short time, but we were still up 6-3.
When the last out was recorded and the Cubs won, Busch Stadium erupted.  By that point, many of the Cardinals fans had already gone home, so the Cubs fans were even more dominant.  W flags were pulled out all over the ballpark.  A loud rendition of "Go Cubs Go" was sung by fans walking down the ramps.  That was by far my favorite moment at Busch.
While I don't hope the for another Cubs/Cardinals play-off game (since you can never guarantee anything when we play the Cards), if it happened, part of me would be excited.  After all, that would be my chance to see more Cubs October baseball!
